USCIS aims to reduce wait times for pending applications

The twin ills of COVID-19 and anti-immigrant Trump policy created huge backlogs for cases at USCIS. In 2020, the number reached over 9 million pending applications, with increasing wait times across all case types.

The Biden administration has announced new plans to significantly reduce wait times by modernizing the process, expand premium processing for work permits and some green cards, and increase the extensions available for work permits while applicants await renewal.

Using technological advancements and speeding the ability to process cases will help reduce the backlog, and work permit extensions will relieve working immigrants of the fear of losing authorization mid-application. USCIS will also hire more staff to ease the backlog.
