MISOL: A new study abroad program opens for some DACA holders

The Center for DREAMers, part of University of Wisconsin, offers a study abroad program for DACA holders, in partnership with Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico. The Mexico International Study Opportunity for Learning program is meant for DACA holders to study and engage in “culture, history, identity, and language” at the UNAM campus in Mexico City.

The opportunity is available in part because of Advance Parole, an immigration program for many with Deferred Action that allows for international travel for humanitarian, professional, and educational purposes. While in Mexico, MISOL students will be able to conduct “ethnographic research on their family migration” while drawing connections to past, present, and future.
